How much does a private doctor cost in Finland? Prices and Kela 2026
Published

The short answer: a 20-minute visit to a private general practitioner (GP) costs about €100–135 at the big Finnish clinic chains, including the service and Kanta fees. A 30-minute specialist visit usually costs €115–205, and the most expensive specialists charge considerably more. In 2026, Kela reimburses only €8 of an ordinary doctor’s visit.
The figures in this article come from the public price lists of Terveystalo, Mehiläinen, Pihlajalinna and Aava. EtsiAika.fi checked them on 14 October 2026, and the price comparison always shows the latest prices.
What makes up the price of a private doctor?
The bill usually has three parts:
- The doctor’s fee depends on the doctor, the specialty and the length of the visit. It is the main figure in the price list.
- The service fee is charged per visit and is also called an office or outpatient fee. At the chains it is about €33–38.
- The Kanta fee covers storing your patient records in the national Kanta services. It is about €4.
The chains present their prices differently, which makes price lists hard to compare. Terveystalo and Mehiläinen include the fees in their listed prices. Aava and Pihlajalinna add the service and Kanta fees on top. For example, Aava lists a GP visit at €83, but with the fees it comes to €121.90. EtsiAika.fi always includes the fees in its price comparison and search results, so the prices are comparable.
| Fee | Cheapest | Most expensive |
|---|---|---|
| Service fee | €32.90 (Pihlajalinna) | €37.90 (Mehiläinen) |
| Kanta fee | €3.70 (Terveystalo) | €4.20 (Mehiläinen) |
What does a GP visit cost at each chain?
The lowest GP prices including fees on 14 October 2026:
| Clinic | 20 min | 30 min |
|---|---|---|
| Terveystalo | €102.60 | €114.60 |
| Mehiläinen | from €103.80 | from €139.10 |
| Aava | from €121.90 | from €146.90 |
| Pihlajalinna | from €132.90 | from €154.90 |
The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive chain is €30.30 for a 20-minute visit and €40.30 for a 30-minute visit. These are starting prices: the same chain can charge much more for a more experienced doctor or a longer visit. Terveystalo lists a range of €102.60–224.10 for a 20-minute visit and a realised average of €128.73. The average tells you what patients actually pay better than the lowest possible price does.
The cheapest chain is not always the same one. The gap depends on the length of the visit, and an individual doctor’s price can differ from the chain’s starting price in either direction. That is why it pays to check the price of the appointment you are booking, not just the chain’s price list.
What about a specialist?
Specialist prices vary more, because they depend on the specialty and the doctor. The lowest prices for a 30-minute specialist visit including fees:
| Clinic | 30 min |
|---|---|
| Terveystalo | €114.60 |
| Mehiläinen | from €171.10 |
| Pihlajalinna | from €199.90 |
| Aava | from €203.90 |
The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive is €89.30. Terveystalo’s range goes up to €443.10, and its realised average is €209.34. There are separate comparisons for specialties such as gynaecologists and dermatologists. You can book a private specialist without a referral.
How much does Kela reimburse in 2026?
Kela’s reimbursements for private doctor visits fell on 1 January 2026. The reimbursements in 2026:
| Visit | Kela reimbursement |
|---|---|
| GP or specialist, including remote visits | €8 |
| Gynaecologist | €70 |
| Psychiatrist | €50–60 depending on the length of the visit |
In 2025 the reimbursement for an ordinary doctor’s visit was €30, so you now pay €92 yourself for a €100 visit. The reimbursements for gynaecologists and psychiatrists did not change. A gynaecologist visit can therefore cost less after reimbursement than many other specialist visits: a 30-minute gynaecologist visit at Mehiläinen costs from €160.10, which leaves about €90 to pay after the Kela reimbursement.
The big clinic chains usually deduct the reimbursement straight from the bill when you show your Kela card or an ID. EtsiAika.fi shows the estimated price after Kela reimbursement for each appointment when the reimbursement is known. You can find the exact conditions on Kela’s website.
People aged 65 and over: in a freedom-of-choice trial, you can see a private GP for the public health centre fee of €30.20. You can make at most three such visits a year in 2026 and 2027. These appointments are booked directly with the provider and do not appear in EtsiAika.fi’s search.
How do I find the cheapest appointment?
- Compare the full price. Look at the price including fees, not the main line of the price list. The fees can add almost €40.
- Choose the right length. Depending on the chain, a 20-minute visit is €12–35 cheaper than a 30-minute one, if your issue is simple.
- Check the doctor’s own price. Prices vary between doctors in the same chain, and the booking page shows the price before you book.
- Consider a remote visit. A video or phone visit works well for renewing a prescription or going through test results.
- Use the price filter. In the search for available GP appointments, you can limit appointments by maximum price and sort them by price or time.
All prices in this article apply to self-paying patients. If you have health insurance or occupational health care, book according to your insurer’s or employer’s instructions. Prices change, so always check the final price in the provider’s booking system.
