When to see a GP?

A general practitioner treats the most common illnesses and symptoms, such as colds, urinary tract infections, insomnia and long-lasting pain, and refers you to a specialist or for tests when needed. A 20-minute appointment is usually enough for one issue.

You do not need a referral to see a private GP. Kela reimburses part of the price, also for video and phone appointments.

People see a GP for example for a cold that drags on or gets worse, urinary symptoms, sleeping problems or a sick note.
