When to see a neurologist?

A neurologist examines and treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles, such as migraine, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's disease and nerve damage. The appointment includes a neurological examination and, when needed, a referral for imaging or an EEG.

The initial investigations for epilepsy, such as brain imaging and an EEG, are led by a neurologist.

People see a neurologist for example for a difficult or changed headache, a seizure, numbness or muscle weakness, tremor or memory symptoms.
