When to have a dental check-up?
A dental check-up examines the teeth, gums and the lining of the mouth, assesses the risk of tooth decay and gum disease and makes a treatment plan. X-rays and any treatments are usually priced separately.
Kela reimburses an oral examination by a dentist every other calendar year. A dental hygienist can assess the need for care, but the detailed examination is the dentist's responsibility.
People go for a dental check-up regularly to assess the need for care, and for example for toothache, sensitive teeth, bleeding gums or a chipped tooth.
