When to see a urologist?
A urologist treats diseases of the urinary tract and the male genitals, such as prostate problems, urination problems, kidney stones and erectile dysfunction. The prostate is examined with a finger through the rectum, and blood and urine tests or an ultrasound may be added.
Prostate enlargement is found in about 80 % of men over 60. A urine sample is checked for every man with urinary symptoms.
People see a urologist for example for difficulty urinating, a frequent need to urinate, blood in the urine, recurring urinary tract infections or erectile dysfunction.
