When to see a specialist?

A specialist has completed specialist training after the basic medical degree, for example in orthopaedics, dermatology or cardiology. This comparison shows the general specialist appointment price from the price lists; prices for individual specialities are on their own pages.

You can book a private specialist without a referral. A doctor's qualifications and speciality can be checked free of charge in the JulkiTerhikki register. Kela reimburses part of the price.

People see a specialist when a symptom or illness needs the expertise or tests of a particular field, or when a GP recommends a specialist's assessment.
