Private imaging

Imaging means X-ray, ultrasound and MRI examinations. At a private clinic you can often get imaged quickly, but most examinations need a doctor's referral, and you go through the results with a doctor.

Imaging

An X-ray shows bones and lungs and takes a few minutes. Ultrasound shows soft tissues without radiation. MRI shows ligaments, discs and the brain in the most detail, also without X-rays.

Prices vary a lot between providers, especially for MRI. Each examination below has its own guide on preparation and a price comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral for imaging?

Usually for an X-ray. For MRI and ultrasound some providers accept self-paying patients without a referral. Check the provider's page.

Does Kela reimburse private imaging?

Only in certain cases when a doctor ordered the examination. Examinations without a referral are not reimbursed.
